Wait...When did this become normal?
Have you ever stood in line at the fast food counter, called your family member a million times and wondered why they aren't answering, or asked yourself why you are paying for multiple streaming sites, and thought, "Wait...When did this become normal?" Many of the things we do everyday are just things we do without questions...but they didn't used to be. They have crept their way into our lifestyles without us noticing and now we don't even think twice as to how it happened or who is benefiting from it.
I was scrolling TikTok (as one does nowadays) and saw someone ask their followers if the thing they just did is normalized now. It got me thinking about all of the times I have asked myself the same thing. Things down to tipping for my fast food order or having to catch my shows on different platforms and switching between them all. Heaven forbid you accidently change your Wi-Fi password and have to log back into all of them.
I don't understand my daughter tracking my husband and I on Life360 to know what we are doing at the grocery store but our parents had the lovely experience of just freaking grocery shopping without any distractions. Is being available 24/7 the new norm?
I want to delve deeper into why or how it has become somethings society has normalized and most without question. This blog isn't going to be me having all of the answers or convincing you to believe one way or another, but it is to get everyone thinking about how things have changed over the years and if it is something we personally want to continue to consider normal or if it is something we need to change now while we still can. I know that I won't be perfect and will have to admit how easily I have been convinced to do the new norm or how I have felt peer pressured even if I didn't want to follow the status quo.
I want to ask the question: When did this become normal and is it something that should be?
